Celebrate the sillier side of the spooky season at the inaugural MoPOP Matinee of Young Frankenstein (1974) with a reading from The New Annotated Frankenstein by Leslie S. Klinger and the unveiling of a new Mary Shelley bust by sculptor Bryan Moore in the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.
From the wacky, wonderful mind of Mel Brooks comes a monstrously good comedy. When a medical lecturer (Gene Wilder) inherits his grandfather’s Transylvanian estate, it’s only a matter of time before he begins to recreate the older man’s gruesome experiments to create a man from human body parts.
MoPOP Matinees celebrate cinematic art through diverse screenings of both popular and indie films in MoPOP’s JBL Theater.
Leslie S. Klinger is the editor of numerous books, including the best-selling The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes, The New Annotated Dracula, and The New Annotated H. P. Lovecraft. He lives in Malibu, California.
Just in time for Halloween, celebrated sculptor Bryan Moore will unveil his latest bronze creation—a bust of beloved author Mary Shelley. Moore has been long celebrated for his busts of iconic horror writers, including H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley. Moore hopes to use his art to promote children’s literacy programs. “As part of each bronze author bust that I create, I’ve always made sure to donate $1000 to the local children’s literacy program in the area of the donor location,” says Moore.
